This is a popular tourist seaside resort on the Adriatic coast of Friuli. It has good hotels, a large sandy beach, a pretty pine wood and a thermal spa. It is situated on the peninsula between the Marano lagoon and the mouth of the Tagliamento.

The town is made up of Sabbiadoro, Pineta and Riviera. Riviera has a psammotherapy and marine treatment centre which uses the therapeutic properties of sea water and sand.

You can visit the fifteenth century Church of Santa Maria which has a fresco cycle of the same period, and the Punto Verde zoo, laid out on the left side of the Tagliamento and containing numerous species of exotic animals.
